Hidden Figures

The feeling that this movie left to me is inexplicable. It is incredible how was the way of thinking in that time. The racism and the machismo were unbelievable. After watching the movie, I think that if these factors weren’t present in that time, the advances in science and technology could be better, because brilliant people were rejected for that reasons, taking away the opportunity to contribute. I really like the main characters and their incredible capacity to make the things change.

The movie had several things to analyze. First, we can see the difficulty of being woman, especially if you have a dream and want to excel. The situation that shocked me is when Mary wanted to be a NASA engineer. Actually, she had the capacity to be an excellent engineer, but the problem was that she was a woman, and there are no woman engineers. They started to put obstacles in order to avoid her to join the engineer team, telling her that she had to study some courses in certain university, knowing that the university only accepts men in their classes. But it was not impediment for Mary. Then, Katherine had to fight against the pride of Paul. Moreover, if she wanted to go to the bathroom, she needed to go to another building because there is not a bathroom for black women. Finally, Dorothy had been the manager of computers but without the well-deserved recognition because she was a black woman. But she started to study about the new computer, also she learned how to operate before the engineers who had been working on it.

I like the movie very much, it made reflect about topics like racism and machismo. Moreover, it showed me that if you have a dream no matter the situation you need to go for it, with patience and perseverance you will succeed.
