Ethical Reflection on Ready Player One
The novel
Ready Player One is very interesting. The history caught you from the beginning
to the end. There are several things that we can analyze from it. But I think
that the most important thing is the impact that the videogame has in the
society. Every person was very addicted to that game. That situation could be
seen in the real life where people are addicted to the cell phone and
applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Using this comparison,
I think that the advances in computer science and software engineering are
always seeking to improve the people’s life. But it is not always like this. In
the case of the OASIS, James Halliday created the game to give the people
another reality different that the chaotic world that they live. But the people
started to spend more time on the game rather than their real life. Instead of
work to change their world’s situations they prefer to escape from reality and
hunt the prize offered by Halliday. The worst of this case is that in the real
life, the people who are addicted to the technology most of the times are not
gaining nothing for it, only wasting time. They are escaping from their life,
ignoring the people who are next to them and also wasting unique moments for
being in the cell phone. I think that the technology is a powerful tool for
those who know how to use it and that have limits about it. The technology is created
to improve people’s life and I am in favor to continue developing new things
and researching new fields. But, in the other hand, for those who do not know
how to use it and limit it, it could be a big distractor that even could
provoke several diseases.
